For a start i can only do these when the Whirlwind has her afternoon naps, so bear with me.
Right then, the wonderful world of Twitter. Ive been on for about 18 months now, (although i only sent 3 tweets in the first 6 months), And to be honest i love it !
Its taken me ages to find the right sort of people to follow, but think ive cracked it now. I started off like most i would imagine following 'celebs', but very quickly realised that most are self centred and never reply to anything you tweet to them. So i started to follow normal people and never looked back.
There are so many interesting and funny people to tweet to, you just need to say hi and away you go. I came to twitter because i was getting fed up with facebook, all the friends and no-one wants to talk, or you get plagued with 'mafia wars' and frigging 'old mcdonalds farm' (or something like that). So i went to Twitter, created a crap profile and sent a tweet to @jasonbradbury from the gadget show. He didnt reply, but he did follow woohoo ! im not that bothered about all this getting has many followers as possible RT RT, but at the same time i understand you need some for Twitter to do what it was invented for, and that is spreading the word and sharing media.
Some of my favorite people that i follow are : the author @thatbloodymikey i found him by accident thanks to Dermot O'leary. He wrote Gypsy boy, a book that i love dearly, and after building up some courage i tweeted him, and he replied, and then followed back ! A very interesting and funny person to tweet with, and the second book is on the way soon too. This is his first book http://bit.ly/aFU0hg
The very talented jewellery designer @alyssajewellery i found her threw @suziperry and got chatting. I bought some earrings from her website for @sxyshell1981 for christmas, and emailed her to do a commission for shelleys birthday, We got chatting and have become quiet good tweet friends, and she makes some amazing stuff check out her website http://www.alyssa-smith.com/
If you try to explain Twitter and how it works to a non-user, it comes out all nonsense and sounds like cyber stalking but we all know its far from that. Like ive said before its like having the worlds biggest phone and having everyones number to text to. Obviously there are some idiots that take the piss and of course the spammers but on the whole its a good thing to be on.
Just quick thank you to @simonMolloy for the gentle push into blogging :@)
I go through a love / hate relationship with twitter - but it's the 'normal' people you mention that make it fun. And to be honest it's been more love recently. There's something very satisfying about getting an RT or even a good reply from a new follower. And when you see an #FF from someone and from that you get more followers and... I'm rambling! I've made some good new friends via 140 characters and strangely I can't imagine my daily routine without it.
ReplyDeleteI did post a reply but it doesn't appear to be here so will start again! I agree with everything you said, weirdly I was going to blog about twitter and facebook this week as well, and I have also recently ditched a lot of the 'celebs' for real people, much better!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the blogging
:-)
